About us
Trans Refugee Initiative Uganda was founded in 2022 to address the polycrisis confronting Uganda’s most structurally isolated and excluded population: rural trans and gender diverse refugees and displaced persons.
Our Pillars
Legal Protection & Human Rights
We aim at safeguarding the fundamental rights and legal dignity of Trans and Gender Diverse (TGD) refugees through robust legal aid, documentation assistance, protection monitoring and evidence-based advocacy.
Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services
We offer specialized Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) tailored to the unique trauma of forced migration and gender persecution.
Economic Empowerment
We aim at transforming TGD refugees from aid-dependency to economic self-reliance through market-aligned skills development, financial literacy and micro-entrepreneurship support.
Healthcare Services
We aim at operating within the national health framework to ensure inclusive, quality, and non-discriminatory service delivery.
